It’s been something of a golden year for the food scene in King’s Cross, from cheery new neighbourhood cafes to joints you might only dare visit if someone else is forking out.
This is due largely – of course – to new canalside quarter Coal Drops Yard. Our current fave is perhaps the least likely. Vermuteria (pictured above) is a low-key vermouth bar and modest restaurant with well-priced daily menus chalked up on the blackboard, where you can eat for under a tenner if you choose.
Inside our free Christmas issue, out today, we give recommendations on what to eat and drink here, as well as count down ten other hot London openings of 2018, including a bargainous new subterranean pizza joint, and one Cally Road cafe where a nutritious bowl of mezze will set you back just over six quid.
Elsewhere we rope in BBC newscaster Zeb Soanes to tell us why he wrote a kids’ book about the friendly fox who visits his Islington flat, and chat to the young Margate playwright who’s debuting at the King’s Head on Upper Street this month. We even pop to Bath for a festive stay at its most acclaimed hotel. So, have an awesome December – and we’ll see you the other side.
