London Food & Culture

What’s in your free December issue of Gasholder?

Stood up close to the mighty new Francis Crick yet? Plus the usual food reviews, arts previews & interviews

issue-22-gh-coverYes, it’s the festive season (well, just about), but, amidst all the imminent feasting, boozing and shopping, why not stop for a second and take a good look around you?

In this issue we celebrate two ambitious (but totally different) cultural developments in the area. First off is the shiny Francis Crick Institute, pictured above with Conrad Shawcross sculpture in the foreground: an awe-inspiring centre for biomedical research, as well as public events space, it opened opposite St Pancras International earlier this month.

Meanwhile, just off Granary Square is the first work commissioned by new visual arts collective the King’s Cross Project. A 50-metre long installation by artist Rana Begum, it’ll stand in pride of place for three years.

In this issue we also hear from director John Rogers, whose documentary, London Overground, is the centrepiece of Bloomsbury’s Swedenborg Festival; and there’s a rundown of what to expect at this year’s Fringe! Queer Film fest, which takes place over five days in venues across London.

Rather eat? We head to a hip new joint by the Regent’s Canal for some stone-baked pizza; and visit Casa Tua, the acclaimed southern Italian café-bar just south of the Euston Road.
