It’s the final issue of the year, so once again time to look back at the highlights of what happened in and around King’s Cross (and beyond) in 2016.
It’s been a year of eclectic additions to the area, from the unveiling of the three-story bar and restaurant the Lighterman on the canal to the artisan Canopy Market, which now takes place on the last weekend of the month.
Then there were two inaugural festivals: the Lumiere (pictured on our cover, above), and Design Junction, which both lit up Granary Square at very different times in the calendar. And let’s not forget the arrival of new arts and science spaces like the Everyman Cinema on the Corner, the vibrant (if temporary) theatre scene along King’s Boulevard, and the launch of the mighty £650 million Francis Crick Institute.
But this issue isn’t just about looking back at the year that was. Elsewhere we report on a cult north London comedy series that will make you smile, and count down ten essential things to do over December and January, from the best New Year’s Eve parties to kitchen takeovers in pubs. We also check out two hot new restaurants in Goodge Street and Newington Green, and hop on the high speed train to a lesser known foodie spot in Kent.
