What’s in the April issue of Gasholder? And where to find it

Springtime things to do, people to meet and places to discover, all in the latest print edition

W

e love all things independent – after all, that’s what we write about every month in these pages. So when we heard that Kentish Town-based Rocket Girl, one of the UK’s most eclectic small labels, had reached its 20th  anniversary, we jumped at the chance to join in the celebrations.

Steered single-handedly by longterm north Londoner Vinita Joshi, the label has an impressive history, having released records by The Telescopes, Cocteau Twins’ Robin Guthrie, My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields and Patti Smith. Inside our new April issue we chat to her about how it all started.

Elsewhere, another musician, Andy Macleod, tells us about his new podcast inspired by years putting on gigs at the Bull and Gate, and Transmission Roundhouse presenters, Frankie Wells and Anouszka Tate, talk us through their frank discussions on sex – otherwise known as Project Pleasure.

We also offer a preview of the British Library’s forthcoming food season (p.9), try the tacos at Coal Drops Yard’s new Mexican restaurant Casa Pastor (p.6), and revisit the Lighterman on Granary Square for Sunday lunch (p.7).

We even find out what a ‘hometel’ is down in Southampton (p.14) – and why it might be poised to challenge Airbnb.
