MUST DO: Veganuary film-fest at Site London

There are free weekly documentaries showing at the tiny Columbia Road plant-based cafe this month

This vegan café opened at the western end of Columbia Road last summer and is well worth seeking out.

Run by architect Elly Ward, its clean white cube of a space combines stylish gallery and card shop with really good coffee, not to mention all manner of goodies from porridge to cinnamon rolls, cookies and a rather fine raw salted caramel brownie, made from dates, nuts and cacao. That one had our name written on it.

There are snack-y lunch options too, such as Mexican rolls and vegan pizza, as well all the usual hot drinks to fend off the cold including cockle-warming chai lattes.

The café also channels all things creative and community-based with exhibitions, installations, workshops and events galore.

At the moment – and every Tuesday in January, in fact – there’s a month of Veganuary Free Film Screenings, including Vegucated (8th Jan), Okja (15th), Cowspiracy (22nd) and Earthlings (29th Jan).

Expect free popcorn and fizz (till it runs out – woop!) plus vegan hot dogs and a soda for just a fiver. Sounds like the perfect plant-based start to the year to us. But get there early (and perhaps bring a cushion) as space is naturally limited.

Doors open 6pm, film starts 6.45pm, free admission. The cafe is open daily 8am-4pm. Follow @site_london, 112 Columbia Road E2
