MUST DO: Knebworth Winter Festival

Get into the spirit with this very early Christmassy extravaganza

It can’t really be that time of year again can it? Anyway for early birds and eager beaver Xmas devourers you could do worse than jump on the train from King’s Cross to lovely stately pile Knebworth House.

Expect an enchanted Christmas Garden and “immersive” Father Christmas Experience, as well as shopping at the Wonderland Collective; browse ranges made by artisan design-makers alongside a selection of one-of-a-kind hand-crafted gifts.

There will of course be festive streetfood from the best independents including Toasty Badger serving their specialist cheese sarnies, pork burgers from London-based Pulled and ice-cream from Panache, scooping yummy-sounding seasonal flavours such as cinnamon, gingerbread and mince pie; all chosen by Eat Me Drink Me, the group known for their bespoke pop-up events.

Feeling the cold? Pop into the Après Ski Lodge – a den decked out with open log fires – for cocktails and grown-up libations. Then head to the comedy area where there’ll be performances from British titans including Rhod Gilbert and Greg Davies, or check out the Feature Stage for whisky tastings with expert Dave Broom and demos from chef, entrepreneur and coffee addict The Food Busker.
