Ghetts: my top 5 London venues

The MOBO nominee on where he likes to play and party, in King's Cross and beyond

Not heard of east London grime star Ghetts yet? Well, he received a whole heap of critical acclaim this year for his debut album, Rebel With a Cause, which also hit the Top 30. And then in October he was nominated for three MOBOs, including Best Male.

The Hackney boy releases his new single, Fire Burning, on Nov 30th – so why not have a gander at the video right here before you check out his top 5 (mostly north London) venues below?

I’ve played this King’s Cross club – and raved there – for many years. It’s a sick venue for any kind of music. I’ve seen all sorts of artists, always across the spectrum – but you know it’s always gonna be good vibes. 275 Pentonville Road, N1

Koko

This place has a great feel. I last performed here in 2010 for an SBTV night. It’s best when it’s rammed and you look out to the crowd on all the different levels. I love all the original interiors, too. 1a Camden High St, NW1

Jazz Café

When I was growing up, my dad went there all the time, so it holds a lot of sentimental value and playing there the first time was special. So many legends have played there you feel you like you’re in good company. 5 Parkway, NW1

Hackney Empire

One of the best performances of my career as I had an amazing choir with me. I want to play there again. 291 Mare St, E8

Egg

Simply ‘cos they put on some great house nights. And I’ve had some mad nights there. 200 York way, N7

Ghetts plays the Borderline W1 this Sunday, Nov 16th. For more info head to his website here
