The Francis Crick unveils a biggie
Like science and art? Deconstructing Patterns is the first ever proper exhibition at Midland Road’s futuristic new temple of boffin, with collabs between scientists and artists in the fields of sculpture, film and spoken word.
Presented over three ‘zones’, it will explore different molecular and cellular patterns studied at the Crick, each one introduced by a unique artist commission. Within each zone, visitors can eavesdrop on conversations between artists and scientists as they reflect on their undoubtedly very different ways of seeing. 1st Feb to 1st Dec, Francis Crick Institute, 1 Midland Road, NW1. Minimix at the Megaro
This new arrival is best described as – their words – “the world’s largest hotel mini-bar”. A former reception lobby on the Euston Road, it now seats 14 people in a “Victorian Steampunk fantasy” space, complete with self-service cocktail bar and popcorn-on-tap. The drinks are inspired by two centuries of local history, from Victorian quack doctors to modern-day pop culture. Curious yet? Megaro Hotel, Belgrove Street, WC1. More here.
Linden Stores now open
The brainchild of Laura Christie (one half of Oklava in Shoreditch) and her partner Chris Boustead (ex-Opera Tavern, Ten Bells), this new family-run wine shop and small restaurant off Highbury Corner is all about gluggable wine and seasonal British dishes. Try potted rabbit with clementine jelly, or smoked beef stew with dumplings. Linden Stores, 220 St Paul’s Road N1. More here.
