t’s been a long time coming, but this month finally sees the reopening of the waterside Fish and Coal Buildings, as interior design juggernaut Tom Dixon Studio takes up residence on Granary Square.
In our new print issue, out today, we look back at the chequered history of this 1851 Lewis Cubitt-designed industrial workspace. From its decades as a hub of commerce, through the wilderness post-war years, before being resurrected in the 90s as landmark nightclub The Cross – it’s a fascinating trajectory.
Now the next chapter is about to be written. Up top there’s a restaurant, cocktail club and canalside terrace, while down in the arches, a plush Tom Dixon shop showcases the full range of future-retro lights, curvy furniture and other desirable gifts. Take a wander around it all at one of the opening days this month.
But it’s not all King’s Cross in the new issue: from a singular dinner in SE1 to a mini-break in Broadstairs, and even an epic roadtrip across the US – there’s plenty to discover further afield.
