Where? Located upstairs at St Pancras International Station, next to Carluccio’s and near the Booking Office (part of the swish Renaissance Hotel), it’s named in homage to the Milk and Meat carriages that were first used by railways in the Victorian era to transport fresh produce speedily to the city.
What? They specialise in handcarved deli style sarnies, so you could go for a signature chicken schnitzel (£8), served in a floury bap, the breast sliced thickly and spilling out with avocado, red onion and tomato. Or try the likes of a creamy mushroom soup with chewy sourdough – which sets you back about a fiver.
Why? MI + ME aims to serve “the best of British cheese and meat”, sourcing ingredients from the UK’s best cheesemakers and farmer-procuring ingredients in small batches. They also claim to champion “the next generation” of micro-breweries and independent suppliers.
Don’t: Bother dipping over the tenner border for a very slight lobster roll at £12. Yes, we know this fish is pricey but there was not enough white flesh, and a delicate, rather than discernible, flavour.
