It’s not every day you wake up in a peaceful forest oasis – especially one right in the middle of London. But that’s the story with the new Gir Lion Lodge inside ZSL London Zoo.
There are nine wooden cabins tucked away in this corner of a recreation of the Gir National Park in Gujarat, north-west India, which ZSL has partnered with on its conservation project. Palm trees are dotted about, and lucky guests sleep within roaring distance of the king of the jungle (and his three ladies).
Inside this issue we stay overnight in the new lodges, and go on both night-time and morning safaris, before the thousands of daily of visitors descend, in an attempt to get an inside take on life at north London’s most famous attraction.
Elsewhere we check out celebrity chef Francesco Mazzei’s hot new Islington restaurant Radici, revisit King’s Cross stalwart boozer The Fellow after its recent refurb, bag an exclusive recipe from Granary Square’s Caravan, and hang out at the canalside Con Cellar Bar on jazz night.
