Less than an hour on the high speed from King's Cross is this quirky four-day festival

Fancy a coastal day trip this sunny weekend? You could do worse than hop on the train to the Folkestone Racecourse for its annual War and Peace Revival.

This year (its 34th, no less) it’s under new management and, like a Glastonbury of military vehicles, dealers from across Europe will again gather to trade and exchange uniforms, tents memorabilia and equipment.

So if you’re a ‘living historian’, have a decommissioned missile or a bust of a deposed dictator on your shopping list, then this is the place – but there are also tents-full of amazing vintage clobber for the retro-minded and on-trend military jackets for the fashionably inclined.

And being a proper festival, there’s lashings of beer, food, music, camping and entertainment – from Vera Lynn impersonators to the cast of ’Allo ’Allo. And you can even immerse yourself completely by camping for its epic, four-day duration. War and peace indeed.
