Well, why wouldn't you?

Well, as Londoners will acknowledge, it’s pretty much mild enough to lounge about outdoors at the moment. So getting yer kit off en plein air shouldn’t be too much of a leap for the hardy.

Thank goodness then that the KX Sauna opened yesterday at the King’s Cross Pond Club. It’s free to use for those paying to visit the pond, and is running throughout winter, with temperatures up to a toasty 90 degrees inside the natural wood chamber.

Can’t remember what on earth Pond Club actually is? It’s only the UK’s first ever man-made fresh water public bathing pond – right in the middle of a construction site area to boot. In fact, it’s actually an “installation” with the rather grown-up title Of Soil and Water, encouraging visitors to enter the water and participate as a “piece of experiential art”.

Oh my. The sauna, however, is quite definitely just a sauna, rather than an artwork, and even fits a cosy eight people at a time. No naked ‘installations’, mind. And let’s keep those towels on, OK?

But if it does all get a touch too steamy, you can always plunge deep into the cold water outside.

The outdoor sauna will be open seven days a week from 8am-dusk on weekdays and 10am-dusk at Sat-Sun. It’s located at the King’s Cross Pond Club, 20 Canal Reach, N1C 4BE.
