MOVIES: Enjoy a watery sci-fi binge
The Floating Cinema is back in N1C after a summer of gigs up and down the Kennet & Avon Canal. The theme is an immersive space odyssey, including open-air screenings of sci-fi cult classics, a summer space school and a series of talks by assorted enthusiasts on board the barge. Highlights include Fritz Lang’s classic Metropolis and a fancy dress screening of the 80s version of Flash Gordon (with prizes for the best clobber). 17th – 20th Sept, Granary Square. MUSIC: Grab a bargain
Cultural hub King’s Place is throwing its very own festival with three days of 60-minute performances, all priced at £6.50. These include an opening brass band parade, rhythm ‘n blues from Lula and the BeBops, boozy interactive classical music from The Night Shift, a talk from Faber & Faber novelist Paul Strathern, and trips on the Tarporley canal boat, departing from the Rotunda restaurant. WALK: Save the bees, by phone
The Bee Trail is a mobile app-led walking tour around King’s Cross. You’ll learn loads about our buzzy friends over the 45-min journey, including how to help them flourish again. Count bees as you unlock new locations and vouchers for the likes of Dishoom, Grain Store, Greek Larder and Skip Garden Kitchen. Available via the App Store or Google Play until 15th September
