MUST DO: Get buff, study life, drink tea

Ideas for your mind, body and soul this month, in and around King's Cross

1. Get buff for the beach

MW Fitness Boot Camp brings a rigorous keep-fit workout to Cubitt Square
MW Fitness Boot Camp brings a rigorous keep-fit workout to Cubitt Square

Local lad Martin Whitelock is the KX fitness guru, and his regular Monday and Wednesday running club is totally free. It starts from Granary Square and takes in a 5k route where you’ll learn about local heritage and meet new people, while getting fit in the process.

Then, if you’re keen to get really serious about honing that beach bod, try his KX Bootcamp classes. Different ability sessions run throughout the week, and focus on burning calories via flipping giant tyres swinging kettle bells and battling with ropes. Prepare to feel exhilarated – at least afterwards.

As if being immersed in all the rose-tinted sentimentality of the current hit production of The Railway Children (based in a special theatre alongside the King’s Cross mainline tracks) wasn’t enough, visitors to matinee performances can now upgrade their tickets to include a traditional English afternoon tea.

E Nesbit’s family classic is perfect idea for the fast-approaching long school holidays, with the big draw being the real locomotive that makes a thundering star turn. Tea, taken in the Edwardian stlyes ‘waiting room’ before the show, includes finger sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, sweet cakes, tea and a glass of prosecco.

King’s Boulevard N1C, run just extended until January 3rd 2016
