Looking for inspiration this evening? Well, look no further. We’ve just swung by Alara Wholefoods on Camley Street (just moments from the Regent’s Canal) where their fourth annual Winter Wassail event, in association with the Urban Orchard Project, is well and truly getting into gear.
Wassailing, for the uninitiated, is the ancient custom of visiting orchards, reciting incantations and singing to the trees “to promote a good harvest for the coming year”. It’s so hoary, in fact, it’s reckoned to pre-date the Norman Conquest of 1066.
So now you know, all you need do is arrive before 8pm to scoff free plates of healthy food, down cups of punchy hot cider and enjoy a live music hoedown. Best of all, there’s a genuine sense of community around the truly enormo blazing bonfire. Ahhhhhh.
