Pop-folk five-piece Keston Cobblers Club released their new album Wildfire in June, as well as playing a sold-out gig at The Lexington on Pentonville Road. “We love being busy,” says lead singer Matt Lowe. “Touring is what it’s all about and ultimately is what brings us together. We’re looking forward to getting the album out to a broader audience, and to our lovely fans who’ve been waiting patiently for the last three years.” Upfront of their biggest show to date in King’s Cross we asked him where else they rated playing in north London.

1. Union Chapel, Islington
“Basically I had most of my favourite musical-epiphanies in here. What an incredible building, and atmosphere. So many favourite gigs: Billy Bragg, Anais Mitchell, Lau. I love the diversity of programming too.”

2. Betsey Trotwood, Farringdon
“A little treasure this, included for personal reasons as we had several gigs there early on in our career, courtesy of our pal, singer-songwriter Jack Day. The Lantern Society nights are fantastic; you can frequently catch talented folky/American acts.”

Scala, Pentonville Road.

3. Cecil Sharp House, Primrose Hill
“What can you say – a folkies’ mecca! A fantastic venue and all-round resource for people like us nationwide. We’re lucky to have it.”

4. Scala, King’s Cross
“We have to include this one as we’re SUPER excited to be playing it on our forthcoming October tour. It’ll be our biggest capacity London gig yet so promises to be a really special night. There’s always something exciting about playing a venue you’ve seen so many other great artists play.”

5. Blues Kitchen, Camden
“One of those rare places where I know I can go any night of the week and have a totally excellent evening. Always fantastic music on here – blues, rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly; it’s my go-to for after-hours entertainment in the capital. And, even more importantly, they do a crackin’ margarita.”
